Is Dr. Lu Eye Care still open?
No. The practice inside Costco Warminster closed effective December 31, 2025, and is no longer scheduling appointments or accepting walk-ins.
Can I still book an appointment online?
No. Online booking has been turned off. To get an eye exam, you will need to book with another eye care provider. Our guide to choosing a new eye doctor can help.
Will there be a new optometrist at the Warminster Costco?
The closure notice said there may be a short transition period before the next optometrist begins practicing at this location. Any new optometrist there runs a separate practice, so contact that office directly for current information.
Records and prescriptions
How do I get a copy of my eye records?
Records are securely maintained by Dr. Lu. Send an email request (the address is on the closure and records page) with your full name, date of birth, approximate date of your last visit and what you need. The closure and records page lists everything to include.
Can my records be sent directly to my new eye doctor?
Yes. Include the new office's name and how it accepts records in your request. You may be asked to sign an authorization before records are released.
How long does a records request take?
Under the HIPAA Privacy Rule, covered providers generally must act on a request within 30 calendar days, with one 30-day extension allowed if the delay is explained in writing. See our records request guide.
Can I get a copy of my last glasses or contact lens prescription?
Yes, you can ask for it as part of your records request. Prescriptions expire, though, and contact lens sellers cannot fill an expired contact lens prescription, so you may need a new exam.
Eye exams in general
Do I need a Costco membership to have my eyes examined at Costco?
At Dr. Lu Eye Care, a membership was not needed for an eye exam; it was required only to buy contacts or glasses from Costco Optical. Other in-warehouse practices set their own policies, so ask when you book.
How often should I have my eyes examined?
The American Optometric Association recommends a yearly comprehensive eye exam for adults. Children, contact lens wearers and people with diabetes or other risk factors may need specific schedules. Read how often you should get an eye exam.
How often should I update my contact lens prescription?
Contact lens prescriptions generally need to be updated every year.
I've been wearing the same contacts for years. Why do I need a new prescription every year?
Wearing contacts comes with certain risks and complications that need to be assessed on a yearly basis. Your prescription may also have changed over time and should be adjusted to give you the best vision.
What is an optometrist?
Doctors of optometry (ODs) are the primary health care professionals for the eye. Optometrists examine, diagnose, treat and manage eye diseases, injuries and disorders, and they can identify systemic conditions that affect the eye. Compare roles in optometrist vs. ophthalmologist vs. optician.
Insurance and payment (historical)
What vision plans did Dr. Lu Eye Care accept?
The practice accepted Spectera and Costco Employee vision insurance, and HSA/FSA cards. From January 1, 2024, it no longer accepted VSP or VBA vision insurance (Costco Optical continued to accept vision plans).
Can I use an HSA or FSA for eye care?
In most cases, yes. Eye exams, prescription glasses, contact lenses and contact lens solution are generally eligible medical expenses. Check your plan's rules for details. Read using your HSA or FSA for eye care.
Did the practice accept walk-ins?
Before it closed, walk-ins were welcome when the doctor was available, although appointments were recommended. This no longer applies.
